At first, I just saw this as an ordinary paper at the desk top of the Allergy clinic where I work, which I just ignore to pick up nor read the whole info for we are busy preparing to start the clinic. Then our Allergy Chief, our best friend, an awarded researcher, remarkable MD immunologist and Chief Professor at Baylor Medical College, gave this paper to me and said he wrote this info to share to clients. Then I read and it is the first simple positive scientific explanation that make me more brave to fill up the online data to take the COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 Vaccination Messenger RNA, abbreviated mRNA, is a sequence of genetic units that encode the information needed by cells to make proteins; mRNA strands resemble the strings of letters emitted by a labeling machine. The letters in mRNA, called bases, are read out one by one in tiny factories inside cells called polyribosomes. These bases, strung along in strands of mRNA, dictate the amino acids that are linked together in sequence to make specific proteins. Living cells have been doing this for eons. Scientists have been working for over 30 years to do this in a laboratory. The mRNA vaccines, developed by the pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer and Moderna, to protect against the virus that causes Covid-19 represents a culmination of this long research endeavor. The federal government funded “Operation Warp-Speed”, was designed to pay for production and full evaluation of vaccines to protect against the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus by end of 2020. It’s important to understand that “Operation Warp-Speed” simply enabled drug companies to use the basic research accumulated over the past 30 years to manufacture these novel vaccines. Yes, they are new but every bit of the science that’s gone into making has been checked and rechecked. The resulting vaccines have been tested carefully executed double blind clinical studies to establish their safety, over 90% effectiveness in protecting against community spread SARS-Cov-2 and nearly 100% effectiveness in preventing severe COVID-19 that requires intensive care unit-level care. So how do these vaccines work? First of all, it’s important to that mRNA is fragile and unstable. To stabilize it, the mRNA in vaccines is suspended in special lipids, fatty substances, that help it survive packaging, freezing, thawing and finally, injection into a vaccine recipient’s arm. When the mRNA is injected into muscle cells, it’s taken up by these cell’s polyribosomes which then produce a critical protien of the coronavirus. What protein? The protien and only that protien that allows the virus to attach to and enter people’s cells. The genetic information for parts of the virus that can cause disease are excluded. The lipids that protect the mRNA have an important secondary role. They stimulate inflammation, which we recognize as soreness, warmth and redness at the site of injection. At the level of the injected cells, inflammation calls cells of the immune system, most importantly a cell known as a dentrites cell to the site of injection. These cells take up the virus protiens being made by the muscles cells and carry them to lymph nodes. Lymp nodes are the factories of the immune system where antibodies and specialized lymphocytes, called T cells are made under instruction of the dendritic cells. Antibodies stimulated by these vaccines prevent the virus from invading our cells; killer T cells destroy those few cells invaded by viruses that fail to be coated by antibodies. How long will the vaccine protect? We don’t know yet because the vaccine is so new. But immune response system typically generates memory cells. These long-lived cells continue to make specific immune responses for a long time. While it’s currently too early to tell, scientists think that COVID-19 vaccines may actually provide better and longer-lived protection against disease than the actual infection.

I learned from “the old nursing school”- during handwriting time they trained us to write clearly, no computer yet but I saw a typewriter at my father’s work desk. My husband and I had a lot of computer challenges at work and home, so we decided to improve our computer skills by attending one subject “College Keyboarding” at Houston Community College, about 20 years ago. This made us understand better on how and what are the computer parts and functions but there are still a lot to learn beyond this.

To be a blogger was an option, choice I made at one subject during Master schooling days, I thought that was easier than making a Podcast which is now easier to do too if you have a tripod stand for steady recording selfie video like in television news.

In my blog site I posted my few articles and few pictures when needed or when my spirits are fine to do this very special task for this need focus time to do it.

Here is how to do it - 8 simple steps.

1.  Click on the url: www.blogger.com Click get started.
2.  Select what your site about then follow the computer instructions.
3.  Need to have Gmail account for sign in + password.
4. This will be good to create, download to your blog which I usually prepare from Word document, Power point, Publisher or Video prior to downloading.
5.  I used removable memory card with: Kodak camera, Sony Camera, Nikon digital camera D90, GoPro hero4 but it was getting very heavy that I preferred using my iPhone 6S camera, they have the same pixel. The progression of camera to taking video, I learned from my kids who were playing with it at their younger school age. Now they are my built-in computer resources at home.
6.  I have a dedicated desk top computer and my family members have each desk top computers too to work at bigger and better monitor for editing.
7. Just be creative on color scheme and this can be edited as much as you want too.

A Rare Camaradie Surprises

A Rare Camaradie of Surprises, Love and Caring! I was so excited! Who I expected least to come was there!

Surprises because individuals decided which best they were to be at certain time? Others have guests, trip to go, sick...

And here they come after all communications of emails, telephone calls, invites, texting, Facebook invitations, or just each other face to face talk. We do not see each other often, on my way to work while waiting for bus to take us to VA after parking the vanpool - Dr. Paula Abraham, PhD, RN the founder of the Caribbean Cancer Walk told me she is coming and write her check to me for I had one returned pre-paid ticket while in the bus moving towards VA...My boss Nurse Manager Sy Reeker, MSN, RN came, you know Nurse Managers are very strict to the staff for fairness to everyone. Two veterans, co-workers and friends, P. Johnson at Personal Identity Verification (PIV) program and J. Hosea, an Administrative Staff at the VA Chief Nurse  were there.  The Labor Adviser at Human Resources Pacardo was there, he was my reference during my emergency (Family Medical Leave Act) FMLA of 12 weeks per year when my mother or father was sick that I have to go home. A very special thanks to Ampy de la Paz, my successful Nurse Recruiter, I first met her at a Job Fair in Manila in 1988, a national newspaper brought in by a drug rep to the Dagohoy District Hospital, Inabanga, Bohol, Philippines. She brought me legally thru a nursing working visa to USA in Jan 1989! Ate Ampy and Kuya Fred and her family took care of us new nurses.  My beloved neighbor Marlene Apura and her husband Alex was there too.

Love because everyone who came dedicatedly engaged their precious time and money to enjoy each second of it.

It was Splendid!  The prayers were blessing us heavenly! The food was sumptuous! The decorations are marvelous! Each one came in their remarkable bearing! The music was so pleasing! The entertainer singers were house Celebrities! The dancing, such a great time, Filipino style! Let's keep up the great work. 

Caring because at the start Estee Mansukhani told me when she was an Outstanding Filipino Nurse, Rusty, her husband bought 10 tickets or one table for all her guests, so means I have to do the same. I was not sure I can afford to do this because I live paycheck to paycheck.  So I invited as much as I can, just like when we were doing fund raising for the fiesta except locally, I remember my best friend MaBel told us to invite at least three to five times or more. I did little overtime and behold my Incentive Award Money got in on time.  In the middle of these, there was a loving reassurance from PNAMH President Rose not to worry if I cannot sell all tickets.  Yes, there were challenges in between and each of us has our own beautiful story to show and tell. Grace Woodmansee was diligently keeping the participants heads up and very beautiful big time host Arlita Pang keep us informed of the ceremonies. The treasurer Shela Escobiza had discussed my tickets sale, collectibles and payment for ads in advance. It was a flawless teamwork!

PNAMH is one of the excellent places to grow in nursing, loving, caring and leadership.  I believed there were zillions of wisdom and talents around that are like "Silent waters runs deep” as my husband Arnold and a common saying said.

My family, friends and I were glad and happy to have been there. It was short and sweet!
